Life had her through a tunnel,
She breathed the cold air in
Small, uncertain steps.
Through a bend
The bend of a new season
A season of red
She wanted to walk away from it all
She looked to the left,
Saw promise, a springing forth but held back

The season beckoned
Yet she stood
The season dressed her
Yet she stood
Unwavering,
In need of something more
Too many disappointments registered
Accusations,
Logical discussions

Colored leaves everywhere
With a promise of a new dawn
A dawn of a new era
She perceived it not
Yet the bible she believes
Knows that all creation groans and waits for the manifestation of the true sons of God

But her pain was at the centre
The new season could wait
Let go, a whisper is heard in the wind
Who is that? She demands
All things work together for your good…surrender, more whispers
Let go

Her back straightens
Her face lights up
Color retraces her steps into her life
Color marks her
She is surrendered
Ready to give in, lean in

The weight of her pain fell off
She turns the other cheek.

Pick me up Bible verses

Hello wonderful people,

Welcome back to this street.

Today I want to share with y’all some Bible verses that have been encouraging me since January.

Depending on the season I am going through, I find encouragement in each and every scripture.

+Psalm16:6

“The Lines fallen to me in pleasant places;Yes,I have a good inheritance.’

+Psalm30:5

`Weeping may endure for a night,But joy comes in the morning.’

+2 Peter 1:3

`As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.’

+Romans 8:32

`And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.’

+Daniel 11:32b

`but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.’

+Numbers 23:19

`God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?’

Ps: Writing this post has been therapeutic and re-energizing.

Do share a Bible verse that has gotten you through a season this year.

Book Review 15: No Makeup On

Book title: No Makeup On

Subtitle:The Rebirth of Identity

Author: Hope Babigumira

Pages: 150

I got this book from a friend (Hey Prossy) and I promised her that I would be done within a week, little did I know that a week was too long for me to devour 150 pages. Hope Babigumira thank you for sharing your story with me. Here goes my review….

No makeup on is a transparent book with a grace-filled story.

40112815_10160758966700156_579067806042030080_o

Hope is born into a good family with father ,mother, siblings, a good house and good schools and so much more. Her parents care so much to give them a good education and therefore ensure they enroll them into the best schools in Kabale, because hey, the right foundation is important.

As with many Ugandan stories, death snatches their father away from them and the once well off family lands on a stranger-STRUGGLE. Her mother has to pick up what is left and fend for her babies along with other dependents ,who she had to eventually release because she was unable to help them any longer. As if the loss of their father wasn`t enough, death visited again and snatched away their little brother. It could have been Hope but as fate would have it, the brother sat in her place and boom, the wall hit him hard.

Hope on the other hand goes through her own struggles. She struggles to fit in, be cool, body consciousness and sensitivity, sexual abuse, drinking and partying, daddy issues, abortion.

Armed with a distorted self image, Hope ends up getting pregnant for the first man who treated her like a queen. Her perspective on love was what Mills and Boon had served her with, a handsome money with a body to die for, would meet you and you fall in love instantly ,have sex and live happily ever after. But this wasn`t the case, this handsome man got her pregnant and he wanted nothing to do with her. Stuck with a pregnancy in her Senior six, her friends advise her to abort and she goes through with it. This left her with a feeling of guilt only God can heal anyone from.

She  moves on to Makerere University, her cycle never ends, drinking, partying, and sex never stop. She graduates, starts the work journey but has no idea of saving or handling money better ,which is the case with many graduates and those still at the university. She is on a journey to financial freedom and writing a book is one of the chapters on this journey.

She meets her husband, they fall in love and move on to start a family. She comes back to her church roots (she was raised in a christian home with strong christian values) because she was tired of life as she knew it and needed to be better for her daughter.

A friend recommends her to a church-worship Harvest where she heard the gospel of grace. She could n`t believe that God wanted anything to do with her after her dark past, but indeed He wanted everything to do with her. God has dealt with her daddy issues, distorted identity, sexual abuse trauma, low self esteem and so much more. He has restored her to Himself and to her purpose.

It is evident through her journey that she has learned invaluable lessons, found her voice and her purpose. She is ready to live her life with purpose and impact the next generation of young ladies.

I recommend this book to every girl/woman out there, we all have issues we are dealing with similar to Hope`s.We need someone to tell a story we relate too/with and Hope does that in her book. You are guaranteed to have `AHA!!’ moments as you flip the pages.

To all the ladies out there, you are enough. You FATHER loves you deeply. He rejoices over you with singing. Be brave.Be you.

Reckless in God

God has not been trying an experiment on my faith or love in order to find out their quality. He knew it already. It was I who didn`t.”-C.S.Lewis

Cliff Jumping into the Ocean at Sunset, Summer Fun Lifestyle

I attended  bible study last Thursday with the Disciples Youth Fellowship at Bugolobi Church of The Resurrection,Church of Uganda-an amazing fellowship with the greatest people in the world.

“Realities in the Spirit ” was our topic in the bible study and it sought to enable us understand what intimacy with God is. The reality (ies) in the spirit are not merely based on how much we know about God (knowledge) but how much we know Him (trust).

My favorite question from the bible study guide was on the challenges we face in understanding spiritual things. The group I was in made bible study worth attending each month. Most of us agreed, our greatest challenge was “t-r-u-s-t”. We all shared on how trusting God was no easy task, at least its easy in speech and not in doing.

One of my group members stated, `its hard being reckless in life,” (that statement sparked this article off).

Reckless means having or showing no regard for danger or consequences or marked by proper caution. I define it as exercising your faith , trusting God through each situation; knowing He has got your back even when it doesn`t feel like it.

God has required of me to trust Him with careless abandon in this season. I must confess its not as easy as it rolls off the tongue. To exercise my faith in every sense has been difficult, most of the time, I wanted to worry because I felt God was taking long to deal with my affairs. But the bible is clear in Matthew 6: 25-26 (NKJV)

25`Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”

26“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap or gather into barns: yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

Embrace the bird mentality, rely on God without restraint because you are valuable to Him In this season, God has reminded me to recklessly abandon myself in His care.

I am uncertain about many things but My God isn`t, He is perfectly aware of my future because He plans and holds it together.

Remember, it is hard to be reckless in God when your focus is on everything else except HIM.

Be careless in God`s care…..

Happy new month.

My A-u-g-u-s-t

August has had a snail pace and that alone has worked me . Just 31 days of highs and major lows that I had no control over. I am glad to say , I made it through with God, No doubt.*yaaaay*

A few lessons learnt from my August which I will be sure to carry into my September. I love personalizing my months.

#1.Beholding God and this simply means, choose to focus on Him alone like the psalmist in psalm 121 .

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills-from whence comes my help

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’’

Let your mind ,body and soul behold everything God and then your situation is powerless because of who you believe in.Let your focus be on the King because He still has one more move and His plans for you are perfect.

See God in your every day and that will allow you behold Him and not lack, sickness, loss………………..

#2.New isn`t so bad after all.

I needed a new playlist of Gospel music so I took to the internet and I fell on a song by Nathaniel Bassey of the popular hit song ,“Imela”. The new song I found is Onise Iyanu which means God of awesome wonders which he did with Micah Stampley a gospel legend.

I can`t get enough of this song and my old playlist is now forgotten at least for a month  as I can sing all songs even in my sleep.

Try out something new in September ie skills, songs, movies, books to read, adventure plans, new restaurants….just try something new, you just might enjoy it.

The words Try Something New on a different color sticky note from the other yellow notes on a bulletin board telling you to follow a change in routine for improved results

#3.Old isn`t so bad either

I reread Redeeming love by Francine Rivers and boy this novel is a classic , I first read it in my second year at Campus courtesy of a beautiful soul and sister-Samantha . When I read it the second time , it was timely. God reminded me of His love for me in spite of what I do and will ever do. He loves me immensely and with no expectations. He keeps on looking out for me even when like Angel Hosea I go back to my old ways and shun His perfect love.

Gist of this is, go through some of your old books ,notes made in church or from a conference and see what you find.

So I journey into September with the confidence that, I am loved immensely by a good, good Father.

Have a fun filled September and follow your dreams, achieve those goals; the year just got better.

Remember your past is a prophecy for your future. “If He did it before, He will do it again. Same God right now, same God back then.”(Another song on my playlist by Tye Tribett)

Share with me some lessons from your August.

Sudden Happenings#2

As i penned my final exams in may 2014,i knew i wanted 5 months of rest because i felt i had exhausted every fiber of my body and now pampering  was my new agenda.

Suddenly ,i was offered an internship placement at Kyusa!!!!!Pampering was not top priority anymore .

I didn`t pray for the internship placement to come that soon; i wanted it to come after my 5 months of pampering .funny!huh??Sudden happenings don`t have a looming mark of arrival; they just drop like atomic bombs in world war 11. When they drop , it`s either happiness or sadness.

Good things happen when we least expect them. It`s like praying for something to happen in a month and it happens months later .By this time, you have probably forgotten  and lost heart. Then suddenly, the answer comes your way bringing fulfillment and joy.

Luke 18:1 emphasizes that, “men ought to pray and not lose heart.”But what happens when i receive what i have prayed for; do i still need to pray?

Prayer is not about God granting your requests but it`s about intimacy with the Father. The giver of the answer is more important than the answer. The relationship with the giver of the answers is very important and must be given utmost attention .

Intimacy is irrespective of whether i get an answer in prayer or not.Intimacy with God can never be substituted for anything. In any case, intimacy with God ought to be a priority at all frontiers.

Know whom you have believed in and let prayer be a lifestyle ;not a one off when you  feel you need more of God because you lack tuition, food, transport, and other needs.

God loves you so much that even before you ask for anything He already knows and you know what-He has already provided. Learn and study the word of God  in order to embrace His principles .
