Mirror ,mirror on the wall

Girls are constantly reminded that a mirror is a must have in your bag, room, rest rooms and every where else. The mirror is major job is to reflect images and that has never changed. As I watched snow white and the hunts man, the evil queen`s mirror sparked off this piece.

I loved the classic snow white and the 7 dwarfs story and my young mind could not comprehend her beauty. What sort of beauty was this that made her top the queen`s list of most wanted people? I wonder who Elle or Marie Claire magazine would       compare to Snow white among the Hollywood celebrities or even our own Ugandan   celebrities.... I know many girls today would kill to be on the evil queen`s list with a tagline, ``wanted for being more beautiful than the queen.'*loool*

The current re-make of snow white and the 7 dwarfs is “snow white and the huntsman.” Forget the fact that the huntsman is  Chris Hemsworth ; the movie is quite thrilling and had me hooked and here is why…..
The evil queen has a mirror  and constantly asks the mirror just one question.
“mirror, mirror on the wall.Who is the fairest of them all?”Image result for the evil queen and magic mirror

The  mirror always said, “you my queen are the fairest of them all ” queen is obsessed with her beauty that she believed no one should be fairer than her as if that is even possible, with the tagline that the beautiful ones are not yet born, hehehe. The queen was cursed to be this way-vanity just like the book of Ecclesiastes says. On one occasion, the mirror told her another is fairer than her, the evil queen decided in her heart to kill snow white.

Many of us like the evil queen  are constantly probing and seeking for validation from mirrors in our lives.Mirrors are just a representation of  people, achievements, careers, marriages, education, sense of style, etc that validate us. We attach identity to them yet they are perishable and  when they don`t fill that emptiness, we feel lost and empty.

The need to be validated by people, social media, academic papers, marriage, etc can be frustrating and leaves one with a void. Our validation should  come from the holy book as we flip each page . It reflects our true self to us as we behold our maker. The holy book is the only mirror that reflects your true self back at you. It seeks to reveal you to who you are-who your maker says you and not what Aunt Lala or John say you are.

Behold the word of God each day, let it transform you as it reveals you to who you are without frustrating you. It fills you and covers your emptiness. Delve deeper into the word and watch you meet you because a mirror reflects you.

There is no way around growing and functioning in your identity apart from God. Go deeper each day.

#Which mirror are you viewing yourself  through today?

I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.
2I live and breathe God; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:
3Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out.
4God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.
5Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him.
6When I was desperate, I called out, and God got me out of a tight spot.
7God’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.
8Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see – how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.
9Worship God if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness.

My A-u-g-u-s-t

August has had a snail pace and that alone has worked me . Just 31 days of highs and major lows that I had no control over. I am glad to say , I made it through with God, No doubt.*yaaaay*

A few lessons learnt from my August which I will be sure to carry into my September. I love personalizing my months.

#1.Beholding God and this simply means, choose to focus on Him alone like the psalmist in psalm 121 .

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills-from whence comes my help

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.’’

Let your mind ,body and soul behold everything God and then your situation is powerless because of who you believe in.Let your focus be on the King because He still has one more move and His plans for you are perfect.

See God in your every day and that will allow you behold Him and not lack, sickness, loss………………..

#2.New isn`t so bad after all.

I needed a new playlist of Gospel music so I took to the internet and I fell on a song by Nathaniel Bassey of the popular hit song ,“Imela”. The new song I found is Onise Iyanu which means God of awesome wonders which he did with Micah Stampley a gospel legend.

I can`t get enough of this song and my old playlist is now forgotten at least for a month  as I can sing all songs even in my sleep.

Try out something new in September ie skills, songs, movies, books to read, adventure plans, new restaurants….just try something new, you just might enjoy it.

The words Try Something New on a different color sticky note from the other yellow notes on a bulletin board telling you to follow a change in routine for improved results

#3.Old isn`t so bad either

I reread Redeeming love by Francine Rivers and boy this novel is a classic , I first read it in my second year at Campus courtesy of a beautiful soul and sister-Samantha . When I read it the second time , it was timely. God reminded me of His love for me in spite of what I do and will ever do. He loves me immensely and with no expectations. He keeps on looking out for me even when like Angel Hosea I go back to my old ways and shun His perfect love.

Gist of this is, go through some of your old books ,notes made in church or from a conference and see what you find.

So I journey into September with the confidence that, I am loved immensely by a good, good Father.

Have a fun filled September and follow your dreams, achieve those goals; the year just got better.

Remember your past is a prophecy for your future. “If He did it before, He will do it again. Same God right now, same God back then.”(Another song on my playlist by Tye Tribett)

Share with me some lessons from your August.
